Assembly Republican leader Chad Mayes, authored legislation (AB 2058) which would increase funding for welfare recipients after they receive their high school diploma or equivalent, and up to $300 a month would be available for recipients pursing a college degree.
65% of welfare recipients don’t have a high school diploma, legislation offers a pathway and incentive to a better life and as the Assemblyman noted, “it is time to make CalWORK’s more than simply a property maintenance program.”
