It turns out that there has been an increase in the number of porch pirates that have plagued online shoppers across the United States. In 2017, the home security company Ring conducted a survey that revealed that 20 percent of people had reported front porch theft. Now, a nationwide packaging supply company called U.S. Packaging & Wrapping has taken this subject a step further and has determined which states experience package theft more often, including which cities experience this issue. The firm used Google Ads to discover each state’s average number of monthly searches for terms that suggest a person was a victim of package theft.
It turns out that California had the third-highest rate of porch piracy in Google-search volume. California was only beat out by Wyoming (1st) and Vermont (2nd). The report also determined the top cities in California when it comes to Google searches dealing with front porch theft. Three out of the top five cities in the state that experience the most front porch theft are in the Bay Area. Here are the top five cities in the state in order from first to fifth that have front porch theft issues: San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento, Anaheim, and San Jose. Not surprisingly, December is the month with the most package theft activity, followed by November and January. It’s definitely important to take some steps to decrease the chances of someone stealing your packages from your front porch, such as leaving shipping instructions about where to leave packages or requiring a signature for delivery.
