The U.S. News & World Report’s annual “best cities to live in” rankings have been released and Southern California didn’t fare too well. Southern California placed second worst among 21 mega cities in the rankings. The following counties in the region also finished pretty low on the list: Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura. The “mega-city” rankings were part of an overall scorecard for 125 metropolitan areas that had various population sizes. The Southern California area managed to rank 107th among the 125 metros.
U.S. News & World Report used the following five categories to compute its list: desirability, quality of life, job market, net migration, and value. In other parts of the state, the San Francisco area ranked third in the “mega city” rankings and ranked as the seventh-best place to live among the 125 metros on the list. San Diego ranked 10th in the “mega city” rankings and 36th overall among the 125 metros on the list. Two California cities, Stockton and Bakersfield, managed to score just above San Juan, Puerto Rico, which was the worst city, on the 125 region livability scorecard.
