Gavin Newsom’s Administration is currently sitting on 64 applications for new or expanded underground injection permits and more than 1,400 new well permit requests. Contrary to what the activists claim, the permits issued in 2023 by CalGEM have not been for new oil wells but rather for abandonments or work on existing wells. There was only one permit for a new well issued in 2023, and the permitted well is beyond 3,200 feet from homes or schools, putting it in full adherence to Senate Bill 1137, signed by Gov Newsom in 2022.

If given the opportunity, California’s oil-producing members can produce close to 50 percent of our current oil demand and make our state and nation less dependent on foreign oil. Oil security means financial control for California’s residents regarding the ever-rising price of gas.
