Governor Gavin Newsom faces another recall threat in California. The same proponents of the first recall attempt are back, but this time to try to ensure that Newsom isn’t going to make a run for President.
Recuse California also claims Governor Newsom is too preoccupied with national politics that he isn’t working on the problems plaguing California. They cite last week’s Legislative Analyst Office budget projection that the state deficit has grown by $15 billion to $73 billion.
Reduce California spokeswoman and fundraiser told Politico:
“Gavin Newsom has abandoned the state to advance his presidential ambitions, leaving behind a $73 billion budget deficit and a public safety, immigration and education crisis,” said Anne Dunsmore, an Orange County fundraiser and the campaign director for Rescue California. She said more than 400 Californians of varying political persuasion have joined together to serve as official proponents of the new recall. That includes others from the last effort such as Orrin Heatlie, the retired county sheriff’s sergeant from Yolo who helped get the ball rolling in 2020. “California needs a full-time governor who is fully focused on the serious problems the state and its citizens are facing,” Dunsmore said. “This may be our last opportunity to rescue and restore our state, while we highlight for the rest of the country the destruction Newsom has left in his wake.”
At the Latino Report, we say there is no need for a recall. Don’t confuse the problems of California with a recall. Gov. Newsom will blame the effort on Republicans, Donald Trump, MAGA, and other right-wing groups. This will drown out the discussion of homelessness, crime, and the economy.
Voters are already upset with Gov. Newsom, and it is showing in recent polling and the media is finally catching on.
Gov. Newsom is a skilled orator and will use the recall effort to say he is being targeted by extremists while ignoring the extremist’s positions he has taken that has led to California’s $73 billion deficit, when just two years ago, the state had $100 billion surplus.
In addition, Recuse California doesn’t have an alternative candidate. This will create the same circus as the previous recall attempt. With no candidate, money, or clear message, this becomes an unnecessary distraction.
