California is on the brink of instituting digital IDs in Apple’s Wallet app, following a successful test of its digital ID app. The California DMV is currently testing the integration, with no official release date announced yet. 

If implemented, California would join five other states that are already using this feature. The state previously allowed residents to download digital IDs through a dedicated DMV app compatible with iOS and Android. 

It’s still unclear if Android wallets will also support this new functionality.
