In a study on how Americans get to work, more and more are choosing to drive alone.  The percentage of people who carpool has decreased even as carpool lanes have expanded, and today only 5 percent of workers take public transportation, down from 11 percent in 1960; and only 4 percent walk to work, down from 7 percent in 1960.
