Prisoners for violent crimes will be allowed to join California’s Firefighting program in 2016, because the pool of lower-level criminals has decreased because of California’s prison reduction program.
According the Sacramento Bee, “ That, in turn, has prompted officials in the prison system and the state firefighting corps to reconsider a long-standing policy that has excluded inmates whose crimes fall under the state’s legal definition of violent offense.â€
The list of crimes include: murder, robbery, rape and sexual abuse of a child.
