John Leguizamo did an interview with Vogue to promote his new one-man show, titled “Latin History for Morons.” In the show, Leguizamo discusses how Latinos should get credit for their contributions to the United States’ history. Even though he was treated differently growing up for being Latino, Leguizamo did not delve into his Latino heritage until he discovered that his son was going through the same things that he experienced growing up because of his ethnicity. In response to being asked about his education about Latino contributions to the United States’ history in school, Leguizamo stated:

There was a little bit of improvement in my son’s education, but Latin and black contributions — and I don’t mean to lump us together — were nonexistent in my public school… Even when I went to college, there was nothing. When I was studying the Civil War, there was nothing about everything we did, not one mention of any participation or contribution, ever. And it would’ve changed my life.

Leguizamo brings up an interesting point about the history being taught in schools omitting certain historical details that change the way people perceive the past in the United States’ history.
